While most cases of hypertension are asymptomatic, some severe cases may present with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Severe headaches<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chest pain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficulty breathing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nausea or vomiting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blurred vision<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tinnitus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nosebleeds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Abnormal heartbeat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Untreated hypertension can result in comorbidities including but not limited to kidney disease, heart disease, stroke and hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because hearing loss is often permanent and progressing, it is essential to identify and manage high blood pressure early on. An increase in the hearing threshold means that the hearing sensitivity in the individual decreases, leading to greater difficulty in hearing certain sounds. The study further concluded that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3889339\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hypertension was responsible for aging or \u201caccelerating the degeneration of\u201d the hearing apparatus<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Effect of Hypertensive Medication on Hearing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many hypertension medications are ototoxic. Medications are considered ototoxic when they cause hearing loss or tinnitus in the taker. While some cases of hearing loss or tinnitus from ototoxic drugs will go away when you cease taking the medication, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asha.org\/public\/hearing\/ototoxic-medications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">others are permanent<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ototoxic medications are usually prescribed for life-threatening conditions such as cancer or severe hypertension. To reduce the chance of needing ototoxic medication, try to manage your blood pressure through lifestyle changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lifestyle Changes to Manage Blood Pressure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For better blood pressure management, consider following these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/high-blood-pressure\/in-depth\/high-blood-pressure\/art-20046974\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mayo Clinic<\/a> tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Don\u2019t Smoke<\/strong>. Smoking can significantly increase your risk of high blood pressure, lung cancer, emphysema and more.
